Miniature Hereford breeds debuts at American Royal

Miniature Herefords — were featured at the American Royal. The breed, a smaller version of the Hereford, has been growing in popularity and drew about 70 cattle to Sunday’s show.

The show was one of many livestock events at the Royal, which this year were spread over two weekends to accommodate a rising number of exhibitors.

SS Miss Kim, as she is officially known, won Grand Champion for females, beating out more than a dozen other heifers. Her owner, Steve Splitt of North Platte, Neb., asked family friend Jessica Johnston of Fort Worth, Texas, to parade Kim before the judge because cattle, not unlike children, often behave better in front of strangers, he said.
